Tooth colored fillings.

Composite resin fillings are by far the most popular form of white fillings. They are made of a glass and porcelain composite which normally contains a light sensitive agent which becomes active during the curing process. This offers an attractive alternative to the conspicuous amalgam fillings. At one time due to the questionable durability of white fillings they would normally only be used for fillings in the front teeth. Porcelain inlay or onlay.

This procedure is used when a client requires a strong, wear resistant filling that is also attractive. Inlays or onlays constructed in porcelain are used for cavities that are too big for conventional filling, but isn't so big that it requires a crown. Inlays are fillings that are utilized in the tooth cusp tips. Onlays (sometimes referred to as overlays) will lay over one or more of the teeth cusps so as to protect and strengthen the tooth. Glass Ionomer

Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC) is a restorative material based on the reactionary effect of silicate glass powder and polyalkenoic acid. The procedure using glass inomer is a fairly non-invasive procedure as it disturbs, by comparison, far less tooth structure than other less conservative tooth filling procedures. This high fluoride content filling material interacts with the natural enamel and dentin which encourages the tooth tissue to actually re-mineralize at the filling/tooth interface. This facilitates a genuine biological and chemical seal with the tooth. This is an excellent treatment for those clients that feel any degree of sensitivity with the rest of their teeth which may otherwise be healthy looking.

Post Operative Care Instruction.
The filling is quickly hardened and cured with the utilization of an additional active light source so a client can, with confidence, and use it normally after the freezing effect of the local anesthatic wears off.
A client may experience some degree of sensitivity to temperature extremes during the first few days or weeks but this is normal and the dicomfort will soon dissipate, fade and go away.
