How is the Procedure Undertaken?
gum recontouring Our gum re-contouring is an extremely safe and unobtrusive procedure which our clients find comfortable and worry free. Our BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC @ Sukhumvit 5 expert will first use a local anesthetic to numb the gums. Then, with our state of the art laser light or, in some cases ordinary scalpel, he or she will expertly and gently re-shape the line if the gum, removing excessive, unsightly and uneven gum tissue without undermining the tooth itself. Our Smile Republic expert will use either scalpel blade or our advanced diode laser to undertake the sculpting of your gum tissue. In fact, our expert will carefully shape your gum line to create the right proportion between gum tissue and tooth surface. As with any laser, the intense beam of light is able to cut through the gums tissue rapidly and painlessly. However, at the settings our experts use, it will in no way affect the tooth’s integral structure or any of the surrounding formations.

Recovery/Post-Operative Expectations.
In general, once gum re-contouring has been completed some clients may experience some swelling and tenderness for about a week. If this should be the case we may advise a client to take Ibuprofen and rinse their mouths thoroughly and regularly with salt water. Our experts may also advise a client that a diet of soft foods and liquids would be appropriate for a few days post-treatment.

Am I a Candidate for gum re-contouring?

If your smile appears to be ‘gummy’ which gives your teeth the appearance of being disproportionately long in relation to your gums, or maybe your teeth simply look short, stumpy and visualy unappealing. Perhaps when smiling you feel that you reveal an excessive amount of gum, then you can certainly consider gum re-contouring. Our BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC @ Sukhumvit 5 expert will be happy to give an unbiased opinion, assessment and guidance on the extent of the contouring that will suit you best.

Guidance for Post-Treatment Care.
As a temporary measure a dressing will be applied to the area where surgery has been carried out will be put in place within 3 hours. Clients are advised not to chew on the area of surgery while the dressing is in place. Some clients may experience a little pain or discomfort, this is quite normal and can be eased with over the counter pain killers, such as Tylenol, Paracetamol, etc., taken as advised. If you have been prescribed antibiotics or any anti-inflammatory drugs it is vital that you follow the prescribed instructions diligently.
Some swelling may occur shortly, or the day after surgery. In this scenario a cold pack can be used to relieve the swelling by applying the cold, or ice pack, to the cheek or outer lips for 5 minutes at a time. Gently brush your teeth in the usual manner, over the surgical area use soft, wet cotton to cleanse the gums.

Should a client experience problems that they feel excessive, such as acute pain, severe swelling, or an unusual amount bleeding, we advise a prompt return to us at BANGKOK SMILE DENTAL CLINIC @ Sukhumvit 5 where we can then address the problem. There will most likely be no unusual symptoms, which is the norm so then please return to our clinic of excellence on your next allotted appointment for your scheduled follow-up check and for any sutures to be removed.
