Dental Implants

A natural, permanent replacement for missing teeth — fabricated from medical-grade titanium and finished with a porcelain crown indistinguishable from your own tooth.

01

What is a dental implant?

At Bangkok Smile Dental, a dental implant is the gold-standard solution for replacing one or more missing teeth. Each implant is a small titanium post — biocompatible, and well-tolerated by the body — that we place into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root. Once it fuses with the bone (a process called osseointegration), it provides a permanent foundation for a crown, bridge or full-arch prosthesis.

Unlike dentures or traditional bridges, implants integrate with your jawbone and behave like a natural tooth — preserving bone, restoring full chewing force, and supporting a harmonious facial expression.

Missing teeth are not only an embarrassment and an impairment to chewing functions, but are also unhealthy for the jaw. Distinct, unmistakable expressions and untroubled laughter are determined to a great extent by the appearance of your teeth.

Are you a candidate?

The single biggest factor in success is healthy bone — and our 3D CBCT scan tells us the answer in minutes. Most adults with missing teeth are excellent candidates. The few exceptions are:

  • Active, untreated periodontal (gum) disease — we treat this first.
  • Heavy smokers (we ask all our patients to pause before and after surgery).
  • Uncontrolled diabetes or autoimmune conditions affecting bone healing.
  • Insufficient jawbone volume — and even then, bone grafting or zygomatic implants open the door.

What if I don’t have enough bone?

Severe bone loss in the upper jaw used to mean dentures were the only option. Today, our Zygomatic Implant programme — performed in exclusive partnership with Dr. Paulo Malo’s Lisbon team — anchors implants into the zygomatic (cheek) bone instead, bypassing the deficient maxilla entirely.

The treatment process

Most international patients complete their implant journey in two trips spaced 4–6 months apart. Here’s what each step looks like:

  1. Initial consult & 3D scan — we assess your bone density and design the case digitally. (1 hour)
  2. Implant surgery — the titanium post is placed into the jawbone under local anaesthesia. Most patients return to work the next day. (60–90 min per implant)
  3. Healing & osseointegration — the bone fuses to the implant over 3–6 months. You wear a temporary tooth during this period.
  4. Crown fitting — once integrated, we attach the porcelain crown. CAD-CAM milled on-site for a perfect bite. (2 visits)

Frequently asked questions

Does the surgery hurt?

No — the surgery itself is painless under local anaesthetic. Most patients describe the post-operative day as more like dental surgery than oral surgery. We prescribe a mild anti-inflammatory and you’ll be eating soft foods normally within 24 hours.

The titanium fixture is for life — Nobel Biocare provides a lifetime warranty on theirs. The porcelain crown typically lasts 10–15 years before any refinement is recommended, and 20+ years is common with good hygiene.

Most international patients complete treatment in two trips: 4–5 days for the surgical phase and 5–7 days for the final crown fitting. Our concierge team coordinates flights, hotel discounts and airport pickups for you.

In many cases, yes. Immediate-load implants are placed at the time of extraction and a temporary tooth is fitted on the same day. The 3D scan tells us whether this is the right approach for your case.

For healthy patients placed by an experienced surgeon, the 10-year survival rate exceeds 98%. Our own internal audit (2003–2024) tracks 99.1% across over 12,000 implants.
