Laser Tooth Whitening

Laser Tooth Whitening

World-class laser whitening in a single visit — synchronized monochromatic light activates a proprietary peroxide gel for dramatic, lasting results without the heat or sensitivity of conventional bleaching lamps.

Why teeth become discoloured

At Bangkok Smile Dental Clinic, our cosmetic dentists are dedicated to providing the very best laser whitening within a warm, safe and caring environment. Your teeth have an outer layer of enamel that, over time, becomes stained — eating, drinking and smoking all leave deposits on the surface, producing an unattractive pellicle film.

Routine cleaning and scraping can help remove this, but over time these foreign deposits penetrate the enamel where conventional cleaning has little or no effect. That’s when an in-clinic whitening treatment becomes the right way to restore the natural beauty of your enamel — and your smile.

We are a team-spirited and patient-oriented practice. We believe in providing the very best laser tooth whitening solutions for our clients, and continually update our skills and technology — both for our patients and for our own professional reputation within the industry.

How laser and non-laser whitening differ

Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) is the industry’s chosen active agent for tooth whitening — but it doesn’t decompose readily, which is why conventional bleaching sessions are so lengthy. Our laser system changes that. The differences:

  • Laser whitening — monochromatic light at a specific wavelength is absorbed only by the catalyst molecules in our proprietary gel, rapidly producing free oxygen radicals that accelerate the bleaching reaction.
  • Synchronised wavelength — the laser output is tuned to the gel, maximising efficiency and minimising the energy needed for maximum whitening.
  • No tooth heating — eliminates the discomfort and post-operative sensitivity caused by conventional polychromatic lamps.
  • Single-visit results — shortened treatment time, dramatic colour change in one appointment.
  • Highest-quality gel — we only use products sourced from reputable, accredited suppliers.

Why non-laser systems fall short

Ordinary non-laser whitening devices use only a tiny percentage of the polychromatic light’s energy. The remainder is wasted as heat and stray light absorbed by the teeth and surrounding tissues — frequently causing intra-operative and post-operative sensitivity. They also don’t deliver immediate results, requiring multiple visits that intrude more heavily on your time in Thailand.

The Bangkok Smile whitening process

Treatment is completed in a single visit. Here’s what each step looks like:

  1. Consultation & shade assessment — your dentist examines your teeth, identifies the underlying cause of discolouration, and uses a shade guide to record your starting colour. We explain the results you can realistically expect using visual examples.
  2. Dental dam placement — soft tissues (gums, lips, cheeks, tongue) are carefully isolated with a protective dam so the peroxide gel only contacts your enamel. This is our key safety step.
  3. Gel application & laser activation — our proprietary laser gel is applied, then the synchronised laser activates the catalyst, releasing free radicals that lift stains rapidly without heating the tooth.
  4. Multiple short cycles — we work in short cycles rather than one long exposure, checking in with you between each and using a prearranged hand signal to monitor comfort.
  5. Final shade check — the dam is removed, you rinse, and we record your new shade against the guide. The colour difference is dramatic and visible immediately.

Post-treatment aftercare

The first 48 hours after your session are the most important. The treatment causes the dentinal tubules to become temporarily dilated, leaving the enamel susceptible to rapid re-staining. A simple rule: think about food and drink that could stain a white shirt, and avoid them.

Maintain your new shade

From 48 hours onwards, your results can last several years — depending on lifestyle and personal oral hygiene. We recommend using a good-quality stain-removing toothpaste regularly, brushing twice daily, and scheduling routine cleanings. Follow our experts’ advice and apply common sense, and you’ll enjoy the brighter shade for a long time to come.

Side effects & safety

Professional-grade peroxide whiteners can contain up to ten times the active concentration of home kits, so technique and product quality matter enormously. The three side effects we manage proactively:

  • Tooth sensitivity — you may feel isolated zaps or tingles during the session. We agree on a hand signal before starting so you can communicate without speaking, and we adjust or shorten the session accordingly.
  • Gum tissue irritation — peroxide is caustic to soft tissue, which is why we always isolate the teeth with a dental dam before application. This is the single most important safety feature of our technique.
  • Thermal sensitivity — some patients experience temporary sensitivity to hot or cold after treatment. This is self-limiting and resolves within days. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen, aspirin) or potassium-nitrate desensitising toothpaste can help.

Why we don’t use anaesthetic

This is a question we’re often asked. Numbing the mouth would mask the very signals that tell us when to adjust — pain can be a warning that the dam is leaking and peroxide is reaching the gums. By keeping you fully sensate and using a meticulously placed dam with the highest-quality products, we make the procedure safer, not less comfortable.

Frequently asked questions

How many shades whiter can I expect?

Most patients achieve a dramatic improvement of several shades in a single session — and many lift up to 8 shades. The exact result depends on your starting colour and the cause of the discolouration (surface staining responds best). At your consultation we’ll use a shade guide and visual examples so you know exactly what to expect.

Provided you follow our aftercare advice in the first 48 hours, your new colour can last several years. Longevity depends on your diet, smoking habits and oral hygiene routine. Regular brushing, occasional use of a stain-removing toothpaste and routine cleanings will keep the result looking fresh.

No. The synchronised laser activates the catalyst in our gel without heating the tooth itself — eliminating the thermal stress that causes discomfort with conventional lamps. Our peroxide formulation is the same family of compounds used in safe home kits, just at a much higher concentration that’s only safe when applied with a properly placed dental dam by a trained professional.

Whitening suits most patients with healthy teeth and gums. Surface stains from diet, coffee, tea, red wine and smoking respond best. Deeper discolouration originating in the dentin layer beneath the enamel may not lift as dramatically — in those cases your dentist may suggest veneers or bonding as an alternative. We’ll discuss realistic outcomes before treatment begins.

For most patients the session is completely comfortable. You may feel occasional zaps or tingles, which is normal — that’s why we set up a hand signal beforehand so you can communicate at any moment. If sensitivity becomes uncomfortable we’ll shorten the session. We deliberately don’t use anaesthetic because feeling those signals is what keeps the treatment safe.
