Dental Veneers

Wafer-thin shells of porcelain bonded to the front of your teeth — produced in our own in-house laboratory to repair discoloured, worn, chipped or irregularly shaped teeth and deliver a complete, natural-looking smile.

What are porcelain veneers?

At Bangkok Smile Dental Clinic, our porcelain veneers (sometimes called dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin — approximately 0.5 mm — translucent ceramic facings made in our own dental laboratory after an impression of your teeth. Each veneer is then bonded permanently to the front surface of the tooth using a specialised adhesive process, completely covering the visible surface.

The chemical bond between porcelain and enamel creates a translucent, tooth-shaded unit with perfectly natural aesthetics. Because we operate our own in-house laboratory — one of very few dental clinics in Thailand to do so — nothing has to be sent out to a third-party lab, eliminating unnecessary delays and minimising the intrusion into your visit.

Most dental clinics outsource veneer fabrication to separate facilities — sometimes even to other countries — giving a more “mass-manufactured,” less personal result. Our hi-tech in-house lab combines the latest equipment with experienced technicians, guaranteeing every makeover is made to exact, finite specifications.

What advantages do ceramic veneers offer?

Our custom-made porcelain veneers deliver a very natural tooth appearance — mimicking the light-reflecting properties of natural enamel incredibly well. They can be made very thin and translucent, with colour matched closely to your existing teeth or designed for a whole new look. The main benefits:

  • Natural-looking results — porcelain mimics the translucency of real enamel.
  • Corrects multiple flaws at once — discolouration, chips, spacing, irregular shape and minor misalignment.
  • Conservative — far less tooth structure is removed than for a full crown, making veneers much less likely to affect the nerve.
  • Stain resistant — impervious to coffee, tea, smoking and soft-drink stains for years.
  • Strengthens teeth — restoring fractured teeth close to natural strength and full function.
  • Customised — shape, colour and size chosen with you, within the limits of your mouth structure.

How quickly will I see results?

Once you’ve decided to go ahead, it’s normally just two or three appointments spaced over a couple of weeks to achieve a dramatic transformation. After your veneers are placed and any anaesthetic has worn off, you’re essentially good to go — the veneers are set firmly to your teeth, so you can resume normal activities almost immediately.

The Bangkok Smile veneer process

Our process has four clear stages: diagnosis, treatment planning, preparation and bonding. One tooth or many teeth can undergo veneering simultaneously. Here’s what each step looks like:

  1. Diagnosis & planning — you and your cosmetic dentist discuss the result you want. We examine your teeth to confirm veneers are appropriate, may take x-rays and impressions, and explain any limitations. (1 hour)
  2. Preparation — about 0.5–1.0 mm of enamel is removed from the tooth surface (roughly the thickness of the veneer to be added). Local anaesthetic is used if needed.
  3. Fabrication — an impression is sent to our state-of-the-art in-house laboratory, which constructs your veneers. This typically takes 5–7 days. For very unsightly teeth, temporary veneers can be placed at no additional cost.
  4. Bonding — the veneer is trial-fitted, trimmed and colour-matched with the cement shade. The tooth is then cleaned, polished and lightly etched to allow strong bonding. Special cement is applied, the veneer positioned, and a curing light hardens the cement in seconds. Final bite adjustments are made.

The "Instant Ortho" resin alternative

We also offer a more affordable alternative to porcelain — composite resin veneers. These reinforced-plastic veneers are used in the same way as porcelain, deliver quick and aesthetically pleasing results, and can often be completed in a single visit.

Advantages of resin veneers

Often only one visit is required, the colour and shape options are similar to porcelain within the limits of your mouth, and results are instant — your new smile can be enjoyed immediately. Where cost is a priority, resin offers a very economical route to a stunning result.

Disadvantages of resin veneers

Resin is now far more durable than it once was, but it remains more susceptible to chipping than porcelain and may need occasional repair. It is also very slightly porous, so it can be vulnerable to staining without thorough cleaning and flossing. Depending on lifestyle, resin veneers may not last as long as porcelain.

Our experts will discuss both options on a case-by-case basis, so you can make an independent and informed choice. View full price list →

Am I a good candidate for veneers?

Veneers are not appropriate for every patient or every tooth — case selection is critical to long-term success. Veneering teeth is not a fully reversible procedure where tooth structure must be removed to achieve the desired result, so only a thorough examination can confirm whether veneers are right for you. Common situations where veneers are not recommended include:

  • Unhealthy teeth — active decay or gum disease must be treated first.
  • Weakened teeth — when too much tooth structure is missing or replaced by a large filling, the tooth cannot reliably support a veneer.
  • Inadequate enamel — veneers bond most successfully to natural enamel.
  • Habitual clenching or grinding — can chip or break veneers; a night guard may help in some cases.
  • Severely misaligned teeth — orthodontic treatment may be needed first to achieve the desired result.

Veneers also combine beautifully with other treatments such as crowns, bridges, implants, orthodontics, and teeth whitening to deliver a complete smile makeover — and because everything can be matched in our own lab, the result is perfectly uniform in colour.

Frequently asked questions

Does the procedure hurt?

For most patients no anaesthetic is required — only around 0.5 mm of enamel is reshaped, which is roughly the thickness of the veneer being added. Where it’s needed, we use a small amount of local anaesthetic and the procedure remains completely comfortable. Most patients return to normal activities immediately after the appointment.

Porcelain is impervious to coffee, tea, smoking and soft-drink stains, and with good oral hygiene veneers can look as good as the day they were fitted for many years. They require no special maintenance — just normal brushing and flossing. Our experts can advise on technique if you’d like guidance.

Not at all. In most cases it’s not necessary to veneer every tooth for a Hollywood-style makeover — unless that’s what you want. For example, after whitening, you may find that just two veneers to close a gap between your front teeth gives you a great outcome, without the cost and inconvenience of more extensive treatment.

Porcelain offers the most natural translucency, the longest lifespan and the best stain resistance, but typically requires 2–3 visits over a couple of weeks. Resin is faster (often a single visit) and more affordable, with similar colour and shape options — but is slightly more prone to chipping and staining over time. Our team will advise which is the better fit for your case.

Yes — veneers work very well alongside crowns, bridges, dental implants, orthodontics, whitening, and bonding. When made at the same time from the same porcelain mix, veneers and crowns blend to give a perfectly uniform colour. Our experts will design a combined plan around your specific cosmetic goals.
